Cecil V. Johnson, 80 - Vincent, Ohio

Cecil V. Johnson, 80, of Vincent, Ohio, died suddenly on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 10, 1929, at Bull River, West Virginia, the son of C. Clyde and Iva Jarvis Johnson.

Cec graduated from Calhoun County High School with the class of 1948. He was a 1952 graduate of Glenville State College where he majored in physical education. He was a teacher from 1953 to the spring of 1962. Cecil was hired at Warren Local School District for the school year for 1962. He was the physical education teacher at Barlow-Vincent Elementary School, establishing the first physical education program at that school with the help of GSC physical education professor Clarissa Williams.

Cec held coaching assignments in football at Warren High School. He was the basketball coach for grades sixth, seventh and eighth at Barlow-Vincent until he retired in 1991. He was the varsity baseball coach at Warren High School for 25 years. Cecil taught and coached for a little better than 30 years before retiring in 1991.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bobby; and his eldest grandchild, Michael Thomas Johnson, on Aug. 8, 2010.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Patty Floyd Johnson, a marriage of 55 years had Cecil lived until the 12th of November this year. He is also survived by his four children, Thomas M. Johnson (Diane), Paula A. Graham, J. Daniel Johnson (Anne) and Joseph F. Johnson; grandchildren, Melanie (Nick) Dye, Matthew Graham, Gregory and Benjamin Johnson and Cody and Anna Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Keira and Zoe Dye. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, where friends may call from 5 p.m. until time of services. Additional visitation will be at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, Ohio, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg at 7:30 p.m.
