(08/28/2010)
Glenville native Helen Holt Mollohan, the widow of one U.S. congressman and the mother of another, has died at the age of 97.

She died Thursday at a hospital in Arlington, Virginia.

Helen Holt Mollohan spent more than 60 years in Washington, first supporting her husband, Rep. Robert H. Mollohan, who served from 1954 to 1957 and again from 1969 to 1983.

Alan Mollohan, their son, filled the seat for 28 years after his father retired. Alan Mollohan lost his reelection bid in the May primary.

Helen Mollohan was a Gilmer County native who married her husband when she was a high school senior and he was attending Glenville State College.

Robert Mollohan, a Calhoun native, is likely the county's most famous politician. He died in 1999.

The couple had two other children, Robert Mollohan of Grafton and Kathyrn Nelson of Falls Church, Va.
