Smith Groves, 68 - Parkersburg

Smith Groves, 68, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away August 24, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.

He was born June 24, 1942 at Orma, Calhoun County and was a son of the late Theodore and Mary Rogers Groves.

He was a former employee of the Wood County Bank and later was employed at Walker Systems of Williamstown until he retired with 41 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Patricia Groves; and five daughters, Lisa (Kevin) Perkins of Washington, Donna (Chuck) Bryan, Tina (Sean) Bonnette, Jennifer (Chuck) Cox and Stephanie (John) Cox, all of Parkersburg; grandchildren are Danille Perkins, Chad and Brandon Bryan, Sean, Jessika and Jordan Bonnette, Justin and Jera Nelson, Chasity, Devin, Jeremy and Trevor Cox; great grandchildren are Ava and Blake Bryan and soon to be baby Bonnette. Also he leaves behind several loving brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and his longtime friend, Pete Gaines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Smith Groves, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, August 28 at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville. Rev. Robert Holland will officiate. Interment will be in the Hur Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and at the Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville Saturday from 2 p.m. until time of services.
