FEDERAL GRAND JURY INVESTIGATION OF WV AGENCIES

(08/07/2010)
Two West Virginia agencies have been subpoenaed as part of a federal grand jury investigation.

The subpoenas are requesting documents from the WV Division of Highways and the Department of Administration.

In a statement issued yesterday, Gov. Joe Manchin's office confirmed that the state was served with two federal subpoenas.

"Neither subpoena was directed to Governor Manchin or the Governor's Office," the statement said.

"No individual in the Governor's Office was served with a subpoena," the release said.

The Department of Administration and the Division of Highways are cabinet agencies under Manchin.

Officials are mum regarding the nature of the investigation.
