COUNTY PROPOSES "TAKING OVER" OLD ATHLETIC FIELD - Budget Revisions Made, County Budget Tight

(04/09/2002)
The Calhoun Commission voted on a resolution to work toward obtaining the old athletic field (Wayne Underwood Field) at Calhoun High School to use for community recreation.

President Larry McCallister will appear before the Calhoun County school board to process the proposal, taking the property for public use.

Final touches were put on the budget with recent revisions, directed toward keeping the county in the black. "The budget is tight," said McCallister.

The Commission approved to continue the Summer Youth Program which gives numerous jobs to young people in the county. The Commission will have a special meeting on April 16 to set levy rates.

A request was approved for the Wood Festival to use county property for the event.

A resolution was passed declaring April as "Fair Housing Month."

The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, mortgage, financing, brokering, advertising, appraisal, or other actions involving housing.
