An arrest has been made in the stabbing death of a former Gilmer County man, Homer L. Rogers, 66, of Cutler Ohio.

Charged with killing his father-in-law is Gerald A. Smith, 49. He was arrested in Athens Ohio, police said he had a loaded gun in his possession, but surrendered without a problem.

Rogers was reportedly stabbed in the neck with a steak knife.

Rogers was found dead Saturday morning at his home by his daughter, Cindy Smith, according to police reports. She called 911 indicating she believed her husband committed the murder. Rogers was reportedly stabbed in the neck with a steak knife.

Smith has been charged with aggravated murder and is being held on $750,000 bond.

Police indicated the murder was related to relationship problems between Gerald and Cindy Smith, likely related to a pending divorce.

Police said Smith did have a record, with at least five arrests for domestic abuse and multiple other arrests for assault, indicating an alcohol and drug problem.

Police said the killing appears to have been planned out in advance.
