Sylvia Gene Channels, 72, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Saturday, June 19, 2010, at CAMC-Memorial Hospital, Charleston. She was born July 14, 1937, in Steubenville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Leslie and Eula Little Tice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Channels, Sr.; son, John E. Channels, Jr.; brothers, Lester, Robert and James Tice; sister, Roberta Tice. Sylvia was a homemaker and mother. She was a former employee of Kellwood Company and Norris Industries, Spencer. Survivors include two children, Joseph H. Nelson, Jr. of Spencer and Kandie F. Sampson of Looneyville; four sisters, Mary Jane Dawson of Michigan, Leslie Wise, and Karen Wsxeborski both of Ohio and Victoria Cline of Parkersburg; two brothers, Ronald and Elmer Tice both of Ohio; four grandchildren, Ricky D. Sampson, Jr. and Joyce L. Runnion both of Spencer, Carrie Ann Johnson and John Channels, III both of Parkersburg; five great grandchildren, Strausse Keifer of Oregon, Tristan Z. Sampson of Spencer, Carly R. Runnion, and Dakota K. Runnion both of Reedy, Paul E. Westfall of Spencer. She will be laid to rest in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Empire, Ohio. There will be no service or visitation. John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements.
