David Scott Starkey and Dorthy
Waneta Starkey Charged In Roane

A former Grantsville man is facing numerous charges following his arrest Tuesday by the State Police in Spencer.

David Scott Starkey, 34, has been charged with breaking and entering, petit larceny, destruction of property, felon in possession of firearm, and obstructing, among others.

He is being held in Central Regional Jail on $12,500 bond, felony charges.

Dorthy Waneta Starkey, 25, has been charged with violation of home confinement and obstructing.

The  Times-Record/Roane County Reporter   says Starkey broke into the Country Table restaurant about 3 a.m. Saturday, hiding his face, but not until the camera got a picture of it.

Police said the man should have known about the security cameras inside the restaurant, since he helped install them.

Sgt. John Caldwell told Spencer Newspapers the entire incident was captured on security cameras.

Caldwell said Starkey waited until he got inside to put a plastic garbage bag over his head to hide his identity, but that was a little too late.

"He didn't enter the restaurant with the bag on," Caldwell said. "He waited until he got inside to put it on." When restaurant manager Kevin Toothman viewed the tape, he recognized the man.

Police said Starkey took $500 from the business.

State Police said Starkey has prior convictions for conspiracy to commit breaking and entering and forgery, among other charges in Calhoun County.

He is being held on $12,500 bond.

Caldwell said Starkey allegedly needed money to pay home confinement costs for his wife.

Dorthy Waneta Starkey, 25, began serving a six-month sentence on home confinement June 1 on a charge of transferring stolen property, according to Spencer Newspapers.

The complaint says she sold jewelry to a local jewelry store that had been stolen in Calhoun County.

At the same time her husband was charged this weekend, Dorthy Starkey was arrested for violating home confinement and obstructing an officer, after she allegedly told police with a warrant for her husband's arrest he was not in the house, says the report.
