A Memorial Day tribute to the Civil War dead of both the Union and Confederate Armies was held at Rector and Beaty Cemeteries near Burning Springs in Wirt County.

The group honored the memory and grave of a drummer boy, who lies beneath the sign at the Oil and Gas Park on Route 5.

Local Confederate reenactors wearing their period-correct uniforms performed a 21-gun salute in honor of those who had died in battle.
