Helen Carpenter Harris, 85 - Spencer

Helen Carpenter Harris, 85, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away June 5, 2010, at Roane General Hospital in Spencer.

She was born in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late James and Beulah Burch Carpenter.

Mrs. Harris was a graduate of Normantown High School and Glenville State College and received her graduate education at West Virginia University. She taught in the Roane County School System for several years as a mathematics teacher, school counselor and school psychologist. She was a member of the Roane County Democratic Executive Committee and Spencer Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are a son, Douglas Ray Harris of Spencer; two sisters, June Westfall of Ohio and Mary Lou Powell of Wadsworth, Ohio; and one brother, Douglas Carpenter of Virginia.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Ray Harris; one sister, Mrs. Ann Stalnaker; and one brother, Gary Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 9 at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Pastor Tom Fletcher and Pastor John Powell will officiate. Interment will be in Collins Community Cemetery at Stumptown.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
