Denzil Hugh "John" Johnson, 79 - Wood County

Denzil Hugh "John" Johnson, 79, of Wood County, the Montgomery Hill area, passed away June 3, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born May 19, 1931 in Calhoun County, a son of the late Willard C. and Opal Harris Johnson.

He was a 1950 graduate of Calhoun High School and was retired from Kaiser Aluminum. He was a former employee of O'Ames and American Viscose. He had also served with the United States Marines during the Korean War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Rockport Church of Christ.

Surviving is his wife, Lois A. Riddle Johnson; one son, Johnie Johnson of Parkersburg; and one daughter, Jody Ann Johnson of Parkersburg; three brothers, Emory (Saundra) Johnson of Paden City, David (Sheila) Johnson of Parkersburg, and Howard Johnson of Grantsville; two sisters, Lyla Hughes of Parkersburg and Grace Dailey (Frank) of Lubeck; brothers and sisters-in-law, Hope and Eam Batton of Delaware, Tom and Louise Breeden of Maryland, Bernard and Barbara Riddle of Walker, Catherine Hupp of Elizabeth, Janet and Steve Johnson of Rockport, and Pansy and Clarence Civitillo of Parkersburg; and many neices and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Lee "Ox" Johnson, Limer Johnson, Johnny Wayne Johnson and an infant brother; sisters, Claudina "Pud" Kendall, Lennie Johnson and an infant sister.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street, Parkersburg. Evangelist Steve Morgan will officiate and burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
