GSC AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO CALHOUN COUNTY STUDENTS

Glenville, WV - Two 2010 Calhoun County High School graduates have been awarded scholarships from Glenville State College for the 2010-11 academic year.

Austin Moore has been awarded the Dominion-Stan Pickens Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 1999 by Dominion Resources to honor Stan Pickens, former CEO of Dominion Appalachian Development, Inc., a 1960 GSC graduate.

The company also wishes to recognize Glenville State College for its service to rural, central West Virginia, the heart of the Mountain State's oil and gas industry. Preference is given to employees or dependents of employees of the oil and gas industry, and is targeted toward developing a talented and committed workforce for that industry.

Secondary preference is given to any student with a concentration in Natural Resources. Moore will also receive the John C. Shaw Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 1985 by John C. Shaw, President of Glenville State College from 1901-1908. This scholarship is awarded to academically talented freshmen from West Virginia. Moore will be majoring in Natural Resource Management. He is the son of Tim and Jennifer Moore of Chloe.

Chelsey Ball has been awarded the Meritorious Scholarship. The Meritorious Scholarship Fund was established through the GSC Foundation to award scholarships on the basis of academic qualifications.

Ball will also receive the John C. Shaw Scholarship. Ball will be a Pre-Nursing major at GSC. She is the daughter of Randy and Brenda Ball of Big Bend.
