CALHOUN MEN INJURED IN DRILLING ACCIDENT - Farrell Receives Head Injury From Falling Pipe

Yellow Creek residents Wayne Farrell, 53, and his son-in-law David Jones, 34, were injured Friday night when a 4 1/2" pipe fell from elevators on a drilling rig in Boone County. They were making a connection when the accident happened, the elevators reportedly unlatched.

Farrell received a blow to the head, causing bruising and hemorrhaging to the brain, in addition to a concussion. He is improving in the trauma unit at Charleston General Hospital in Charleston.

David Jones was released Saturday morning with a broken collarbone and lacerations to the face.

The men are employees of Warren Drilling Company.
