FRONTIER BUY-OUT OF VERIZON LANDLINES APPROVED

(05/14/2010)
The West Virginia Public Service Commission has approved the sale of Verizon-West Virginia to Frontier Communications that would transfer all land-line operations in the state to Frontier.

West Virginia was the last of several states to make the approval.

The sale was widely opposed by Verizon workers.

The Public Service Commission said that Verizon long distance accounts would be transferred to a Frontier affiliate.

The state commission says the benefits of the merger outweighed the risks for the state.

The sale reportedly has some conditions being met, including millions of dollars in capital investments in Verizon to increase broadband to most of the state.

B. Keith Fulton, president of Verizon West Virginia, says the company is pleased the commission approved the transaction.
