Lightning strikes near Grantsville house

An earth-shaking lightning strike near a house on Johnson Street in Grantsville prompted a call to the Grantsville VFD yesterday afternoon.

Firemen responded to the Daniel Smith house where lightning had struck a nearby tree and ran through the house's electrical system, tripping breakers.

Smith said during the strike, mud flew from the base of the tree against the house.

There was no apparent damage.

Another earth-shaking lightning strike at Hur during the early morning hours Saturday, caused a small woods fire near the Delmas and Ellen Wade residence.

The fire was fanned by a 25-30 mph wind, but accompanying rain kept the fire from spreading.

The Grantsville VFD responded to the incident, putting water on the fire.
