UPDATE: TEEN SURVIVES NEAR-DROWNING INCIDENT RIVER AT ELIZABETH

(05/10/2010)
Sheriff D. Keith Wilson, Wirt County Sheriff, said a teen boy survived a serious situation after he nearly drowned in the Little Kanawha River near Elizabeth Friday evening.

The teen was swept under the current at the Well's Lock and Dam, a well-known river area a short distance from Elizabeth.

He was life-flighted to Charleston Area Medical Center.

Sheriff Wilson said the boy was with other teens, who said they were wading in the water near the dam and thought the teen was playing when he went under water, but then he didn't come up.

Wilson said the boys reportedly performed CPR.

The teen's name has not been released.
