WRITTEN/RECORDED CONSENT NEEDED TO SEARCH VEHICLES

In January, West Virginia drivers will give recorded or written consent to allow police to search their vehicles, in nearly all circumstances. Previously, police could search vehicles without written and or recorded consent, and that evidence being allowed to be entered into the court. Civil liberties officials says the change allows citizens to understand their rights to refuse warrantless searches.
