DOMINION WORKERS UNHAPPY OVER CONTRACT - Union Says Benefits Are At Stake

(03/29/2002)
More than one thousand Dominion workers from two companies are unhappy over current negotiations regarding a new contract. The contract expires March 31 with the Richmond based company, which was formerly CNG and Hope. The contract affects 258 Dominion-Hope workers, many of them in this region.

Dominion is one of America's biggest energy companies. Hundreds of employees in West Virginia received early retirement or lost their jobs over the past few years, related to the changing business climate.

Union President Charlie Rittenhouse told 150 workers at a Clarksburg meeting this week the proposed contract is worse than it is now. He said benefits were being removed. He said workers would have to pay more for medical coverage.

Wage discussions have not begun. Informational pickets are planned over the weekend.
