NEW RIVER GORGE BRIDGE CATWALK NOT FOR THE FAINT

(04/21/2010)
New River Gorge visitors will soon be able to walk across the canyon on a 24 inch wide catwalk 850 feet above the river.

Reports say the walk is not for the faint, although quite safe.

The catwalk is an existing part of the structure of the New River Gorge Bridge that runs the entire 3,030 foot length of the Bridge.

A catwalk tour of the highest vehicular bridge in North America and the second-highest single span arch bridge in the World should be a truly unique experience.

Bridge Walk tours will begin at the Canyon Rim Visitor's Center.

Views of the New River Gorge open to reveal continuous cliffs, creeks and waterfalls, and the ever-changing colors of the Gorge.

850 feet directly below the walkway is Fayette Station Road, and the New River where you may see rafters come through Fayette station rapid, or watch a train make its way through the winding gorge.
