GRANTSVILLE FINED $8,830 FOR SEWAGE LEAKS

(04/03/2010)
The Town of Grantsville has been fined $8,830 over leaks and problems in the town's sewage system.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection investigated complaints in December regarding problems on Pine Street and at a lift station on River Street that surfaced in November, 2009.

The WVDEP said the town had failed to report the problems.

Mayor Gary Knight, according to The Calhoun Chronicle, responded to the WV EPA on March 12, indicating the problems had been fixed.

The town has proposed a settlement of the fine.

The town has received funding for some improvement to the sewage system, which includes resolving lift station problems.
