Are you prepared for Mother Nature's next act? Winter blizzards have left center stage, but spring storms and floods are already demanding the weather spotlight.

Perhaps you already have set aside candles and flashlights in preparation for inevitable power outages. But what about other safety steps? For example, are your family records and other important papers safe from flood waters?

West Virginia University Extension Service educators recommend that you inventory and properly store important documents. Your precautions list should include insurance policies, birth certificates, property records, wills and many other documents.

Learn how to select and protect your documents by checking the   Disasters   section of the WVU Extension Service web site.

Also browse through instructions about preparing for and recovering from floods and other disasters. Safety instructions focus on food, water, pets, farm animals and other valuables.
