2:40 AM - A fatality is being reported by the Spencer-Roane Volunteer Fire Department at 115 Circle Avenue in Spencer.

A firemen said a person was confirmed dead inside the burning structure at 2:48 a.m., apparently going back into the burning structure.

Sources at the scene told the Herald that a man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family, apparently went back into the structure to rescue his dogs, after assisting his girlfriend from the blaze.

Firemen went into the burning house with breathing apparatus and pulled the victim out.

Other area firemen are responding to the blaze from Reedy and Clover VFDs.

Circle Avenue is on a hill above the main part of Spencer's Main and Market Streets.

A 911 dispatcher said during the first call that no one was entrapped in the structure, indicating everyone was reported out of the structure.

At 3:30 a.m. a firemen was reporting that "flames are coming through the roof and out the windows."
