Rev. Carlos Nutter filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church.

Euell Russell who suffered a broken femur whilst a patient at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center continues to undergo therapy at Health South's Western Hills facility off College Parkway in Parkersburg. He enjoys having visitors.

Hazel Dell Wix Hoffman, age 105, passed away in Parkersburg. She was the daughter of George "Doc" & Mary Elizabeth Criss Wix. Her father was a well-known Little Kanawha River boatman. She never forgot Creston and provided local folks with many pictures including ones showing the construction of what is now the Creston Community Building. She, of course, attended the old two-story schoolhouse which was situate near the present Darrell Hacker residence.

Wilbert H. "Bud" Kellar, age 74, passed away in Norton Ohio. He was a son of Herb Kellar.

Mildred Smith, age 90, of Brooksville passed away. The widow of Jay Smith, she was a daughter of Harry & Doris Schrader of Little Creek.

For some reason the Creston area had a lot of helicopter traffic.

A number of anglers were trying their luck and testing their skill at the point no doubt looking for the trophy muskellunges that lurk in local waters. Speaking of fishing, the big eared one's NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) is contemplating new rules concerning "marine spatial planning". NOAA spokesperson Jane Lubchenco indicated such has to do with regulating commercial & sport fishing in both salt & fresh waters. Some groups who think their messiah has arrived want to ban all fishing everywhere & there is talk of an executive order along those lines.

Dump trucks have been hauling stone up the Richardsonville road.

Spring like weather continues locally with both chickweed and hair bitter cress now in bloom, along with hazel nuts, etc. Rain caused local streams to raise and violate government "pollution" standards. It seems with clay soils there is erosion without agricultural or timbering action and suspended solids get in the stream. The main part is an aluminum compound that is harmless but the "experts" report such as a toxic aluminum compound. This also raises the question of the validity of the mercury scare in Little Kanawha River fish. Where was the factory that caused all the mercury to get in the river? Are these reports on a par with the hoaxes sent out to promote "global warming?"

Sgt. Thomas Fluharty, USA Retired, is recovering after undergoing open-heart surgery. He is still undergoing therapy.

Some folks borrowed Don Rhodes's chariot and blew it up.

Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell were calling on Mary Reno.

Jack Nutter is crippled up because of a slide he had when it was snowy.

Garold McKown came down to the Creston area and ended up "under the weather" had had to return to Barberton.

Connie Boggs is home after a heart related hospital visit.

A portable toilet was placed in the middle of one of Heartwood Fund's big clear cuts indicating that perhaps a group of Mexicans would be brought in to plant seedlings. One fellow noted that "Those women were tough; carrying a kid on her back all day and planting trees."

The Wirt road crew scraped the road going down Straight Creek and it was reported to have been an excellent job.

One local resident (at least) received a "confidential" letter from a postal executive in Newington Virginia asking for help in improving mail delivery. Unlike many other places, both far, & near Creston has always had excellent mail delivery.

The Harry Potter look alike Austin Westfall had a birthday party Saturday evening. Because of rain the poker run advance crew had to postpone their prelim, also scheduled for Saturday, until a later, drier day.

W. Harrison Schenerlein IV & a relative went on "an adventure" out on the ridge between the West Fork & Little Creek and didn't get back on time causing a 'major manhunt' for the "lost ones". They were found coming down out of Ghost Hollow and encountered no problems with 'specters'. Harrison was checking out tree stumps, logs, snow, ice sickles, running water, woodpeckers, crows & such.

The price of local Penn grade crude fell 75 cents/bbl to $74.25. Energy continues to be a big topic which is intertwined with the "global warming/climate change" news. It is clear that while the Chinese build a new coal power plant (without scrubbers ?) each week, the plan in America is to shut down all coal plants & go to wind, solar & biomass. The lower castes in India cook with biomass which there really is "organic waste" from sacred cows. While those who have a more practical view realize that the wind doesn't always blow (and in northern regions it seems the windmills cannot be used in cold weather) and the sun doesn't always shine so natural gas is the logical substitute which is why there has been the frenzy of Marcellus drilling. The speakeress of the house noted that natural gas wasn't a fossil fuel - perhaps she thought it was generated by eating beans, cooked cabbage & buttermilk. While some lip service has been given by the wise ones down in the swamps along the Potomac about drilling, Ken Salazar, the big eared one's Interior Secretary issued an order that there would be no offshore drilling for gas before 2012 at the earliest. One can draw one's own conclusions.
