About 282 customers of Megan Oil and Gas Company, most of them in the Big Springs and Tanner area, could be looking at an increase in their consumer gas costs.

Calhoun customers are facing a 237% increase and Gilmer customers are facing an 86% increase.

Megan Oil and Gas, whose principal office is in Spencer at the Roy G. Hildreth and Son headquarters, is seeking the increase with the West Virginia Public Service Commission.

A legal ad in the Calhoun Chronicle indicates the increase would be an average of about $70 a month.

While the increase was set for January 22, 2010, that was deferred until June, 2010.

A public hearing on the increase will be conducted in the town hall meeting room in Glenville on March 30, 2010 at 10 a.m. Any person affected by the proposed increase can appear and speak regarding the increase.

It appears that Megan, not unlike other gas outfits, does not want to be in the consumer gas business, and has been the subject of WV-PSC intervention when they have refused to hook-up local residents.

Megan is drilling for natural gas in the region.
