Mildred "Granny" Smith, 90 - Big Bend

Mildred "Granny" Smith, 90, of Big Bend, West Virginia, passed away March 5, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg. She was born at Little Creek WV, a daughter of the late Harry and Doris Smith Shrader. Surviving are two daughters, Lenore Jones of Big Bend and Charlotte Smith of Valley View TX; one sister, Geraldine (Charles M.) Hall of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren, Roberta Frederick, Melissa Hixon, Timothy Dickson, Janet Hardway, Heather Dickson, Aaron Dickson, Rebecca Keener and Brandy Barr; ten great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; two very special loving sons-in-law, Dennis Dickson of Big Bend and Lester Dickinson of Valley View TX; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Smith served as a cook and janitor at both former Brooksville schools. She was a former employee of Rubber Fabricators of Grantsville, and later retired from BF Goodrich. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Smith; one son, Harold (Bud) Smith; a son-in-law, Denzil (Pete) Jones; four brothers, Howard, Floyd, Dexter and Roy; four sisters, Leola, Vienna, Arizona and Genevive; two half brothers, Harry and Sam; and half sisters, Dessil, Jessie, Margret, Jane and Mable. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11 at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Interment will be in the Smith Cemetery at Munday. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
