Rev. Carlos Nutter filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church & served Holy Communion.

Euell Russell who is now a bionic man with a new upper femur ball joint is undergoing therapy at Western Hills/Health South at Parkersburg. The facility is located near Ohio Valley College on College Parkway off Rosemar Road & Euell likes to have company. W. Harrison Schenerlein IV was calling on Euell Sunday afternoon.

Folks came from far & near for the big Creston auction Saturday evening. Casper Shuman noted that he could eat super hot pepper cheese and not even break out a sweat.

A big hole came in the deck of the LKR bridge at Creston. A metal plate was placed over the place where the concrete fell out. There is also a plate on the Tucker's Creek bridge down at the county seat.

Folks over in Roane County report that the roads are so bad that automobiles cannot traverse what had been year 'round roads. The Big Boss has said that "There is no money." The Wirt road crew filled some of the potholes on the Creston Hill road going out to the graveyard.

Jack Stewart said that he reads the Creston News each week & wishes that he could live in Creston. Jack who has a business in Mineral Wells now owns the Chrysler dealership in Clarksburg and recently obtained the Jeep dealership. He said that when he hired workers he always tried to hire folks from Calhoun & Wirt Counties as they were always hard, reliable employees.

Mr. & Mrs. Larry Webster were attending to business in Pettyville.

Quite a bit of hay was moved over the weekend in Creston. The warm days have melted much of the snow and some crocuses are now blooming.

Government decreed fast time is scheduled to start next Sunday.

The census is always somewhat of a controversial thing but with the big-eared one in charge this time there are extra "items". On the national level large sums have been spent for "advertising", apparently to get one up on the nonexistent, competitor census or whatever. To say the least the ads are dumb, touting all "the goodies" the census will bring to the subjects as if government money comes from some magic place. Locally those who were hired were told conflicting stories with a resultant retention rate of about 50%. Some of the local workers drove up a real rough hollow and placed census forms on the doors of what are termed "seasonal dwellings" known locally as hunting cabins. Likely the owners will find the forms sometime before next deer season.

Brandon Ferrell was visiting Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell & Jeremy.

Gary Michael Ferrell's place on Route 5 near the Munday road burned the other morning.

The postal service is again talking about terminating Saturday mail delivery. Of course mail is delivered seven days per week to all local post offices but that doesn't get much news coverage. While postal volume is down it is generally agreed that the management of the operation leaves much to be desired. One would have had to look long and hard to find some as incompetent as those who run the Clarksburg & Beckley operations (the ones that control local post offices and work to get rid of local post offices that give good service.)

Eugene Duskey, age 83, of Cremo passed away. He was the son of Daniel & Lena Duskey.

A memorial service was held Saturday at the Pennington residence on Burning Springs Run for the late Eva G. Pennington who succumbed after a long bout with cancer. Rev. Carlos Nutter brought a short Scripture message and a poem was read by a former high school classmate.

Alvin Engelke was attending to business in Fayetteville where there is a plaque situate on the wall in front of the Court House noting that Abram Vandal donated the land for the seat of government. Abram Vandal is the ancestor of all the local Vandals (regardless of how the name is spelled) and some of the dePue family. Alvin discovered that Gauley Bridge has a lot in common with Summersville, Iaeger, Friendly, Tunnelton and a certain local county seat town.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil rose $1.25/bbl to $74.50. It was reported that Antero drilled in a powerful new Marcellus well in Harrison County while Chesapeake's latest well in Wetzel County was also a slunger.

A spokesperson for EQT (Equitable) noted that they were planning on drilling horizontal wells on 45,000 acres in Lewis County. EQT has a lot of flat rate wells which they don't want to convert to percentage royalty wells.

The big eared one continues to push for "health care reform" which would establish 118 new government agencies to control all of everyone's health. General Electric (GE) looks to make billions providing the computer tools so that Big Brother can know all about all of us and decide who receives what in the way of care, etc. The GE nexus with the big eared one has scary parallels with IBM's relationship with the then government of Germany when the national socialists ran the show.
