SEVEN FREQUENTLY FLOODED CALHOUN PROPERTIES WILL BE PURCHASED - Commission Receives $500,000 Mitigation Grant

(02/24/2010)
Calhoun Commissioner President Bob Weaver was advised Tuesday by Gov. Joe Manchin that seven Calhoun proprieties will be purchased and demolished by the HUD Disaster Recovery Initiative.

The commission applied for the 2008 grants.

Five structures are located in the communities of Chloe and Orma and two are in Grantsville, according to Tim Meeks, of the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council.

The proprieties are on the flood plain near the Little Kanawha River and the West Fork of the Little Kanawha River.

The proprieties have been subjected to repetitive flooding during hard rains or downpours.
