R. Alan Brant, 60 - Spencer

R. Alan Brant, 60, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Friday, February 19, 2010, from injuries received in an automobile accident on U.S. Route 119 South of Spencer.

He was born December 22, 1949, in Tacoma Park, Maryland, a son of the late Russell Alan and Elizabeth Frances Rae Dewey Brant.

Alan was the assistant director of WorkForce West Virginia. He was a Christian and a member of the Word of Faith Fellowship, Spencer.

He was a Navy veteran of the Viet Nam War and a member of the American Legion Post 21, Spencer. He was president of Tri-County Partnership and a member of the Roane County Solid Waste Authority. Alan was an Eagle Scout and an active volunteer in local scout activities in the area.

Survivors include his wife, Kay F. Brant of Spencer; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Brant of High Springs, FL and Larry and Andrea Brannon of Spencer; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Kenneth Johnston and Norma and Kyle Knopp all of Spencer and Teresa Brannon of San Ramon, CA; brothers, Duane and Daniel Brant both of Florida; sister, Lys Burden of Florida; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer where a funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Geoff Wayne and Rev. Kay Lowther officiating.

Military honors will be accorded by members of the American Legion, V.F.W., D.A.V. and Order of the Purple Heart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to Kay F. Brant, c/o John H. Taylor Funeral Home, P.O. Box 41, Spencer, WV 25276.
