Bruce Hathaway, 77 - Glenville

Bruce Hathaway, 77, of Glenville, West Virginia, passed away February 19, 2010.

Bruce had been battling lymphoma for several years and was living at the home of his daughter Laura Hathaway in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, at the time of his death.

In addition to Laura and her husband Rodney Companion and son Nathan, Bruce is survived by his son Joseph Hathaway and wife Debra and their children Billy and Andy of Fort Mill South Carolina; daughter, Susan Hathaway of Charleston, WV; good friend and companion Ruth Chisler of Glenville; great grandson Adam Hathaway and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy with whom he shared 43 years of marriage before her death in 1996.

Bruce was born in Johnson City, New York, the son of William and Jessie Hathaway. He graduated from Johnson City High School before enlisting in the Air Force, from which he retired as Master Sergeant after 24 years of both active and reserve service. He graduated from Glenville State College in 1981. He also retired from Glenville State College where he was Director of the physical plant for 14 years.

He was an avid woodworker and spent many happy hours in his workshop. He enjoyed traveling which often included trips to hot air balloon festivals. He was active in the Glenville community where he served on the WV State Folk Festival Committee, was president of the Glenville Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow, was president of the Gilmer County Retired School Employees Association, was an auxiliary member of the Republican Women's Committee and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Bruce could always be counted on to provide assistance to any person or organization that needed something done.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday February 24, 2010 at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. Glenville WV. With Rev. Al Billips officiating. Cremation will follow at the Omega Crematory, Morgantown, WV.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society online www.lls.org or Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202. Ellyson Mortuary Inc. is assisting the family of Bruce Hathaway with arrangements.
