FIRST JUNIOR RED CROSS MEETING HELD

(02/16/2010)
The Calhoun County office of the American Red Cross held their first Junior Red Cross Club meeting at the Upper West Fork Park in Chloe, February 3rd.

The first meeting focused on getting to know one another and making plans on how to evacuate member's homes in case of fire.

Each student drew a map of their home and surrounding area. Parents helped their children as they developed two safe plans on how to leave the home and where to meet outside. At the end of the club meeting each child had a well planned and safe escape route.

Home school children are encouraged to join the club - The Junior Red Cross club meets every other Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Upper West Fork Park.

The American Red Cross also plans to establish a Junior Red Cross Club in the Calhoun Middle School where students are also encouraged to join.

The Calhoun County office of the Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is excited to announce an opportunity to provide CPR/First Aid and Babysitting classes free. The American Red Cross is now providing free scholarships to Armed Forces Services members and their families through the end of May. Eligible service members include all branches of the military whether current or prior service members, full time, guard, or reserve members. To take advantage of this exciting opportunity please contact your local office at 304-588-0717.

The Chapter would also like to thank all those who participated in the Wendy's fundraiser for Haiti relief. On Monday, January 25th, owners Ray and Kim Blackburn donated 10% of proceeds from their 5—8 p.m. dinner rush.
