SUTTON DAM 50 YEARS OLD

Sutton Dam across the Elk River is a favorite central WV destination (Hur Herald Photo) Sutton Dam, now a part of the central West Virginia landscape, is having a birthday. It is the dams 50th anniversary. Flood control was the purpose of Sutton Dam when construction started in 1949, completed in 1959 and dedicated in 1961. Officials say an anniversary celebration is being planned for the summer of 2011.
