TWO SLAIN IN CHARLESTON - Two people known to authorities have been shot to death in a car in in Kanawha City.

They have been identified as Bruce Edward Duling, 53, of Charleston, and Carrie Dawn Pontier, 33, of Marmet.

A man driving to work noticed the vehicle with its reverse lights on pulled off to the side of the road. He stopped and discovered the victims.

Police investigated the scene before draping a sheet over the car and towing it away with both victims still inside.

MERCER MURDER - Mercer County deputies are interviewing more than a dozen witnesses in connection with a murder near Lashmeet.

Sheriff Don Meadows says the victim, 33-year old Johnny Midkiff, Jr. of Lashmeet, was shot and killed by 33-year old Harvey Lee Hindley of Princeton.

Authorities said the two men reportedly had a previous history.

Police say Midkiff, driving down Route 10, saw Hindley walking alongside the road and stopped. The pair got into an argument. That's when the shooting happened.

Hindley fled, but was arrested a short time later.

There were several witnesses to the shooting.

Hindley is being held in the Southern Regional Jail.

KANAWHA HOLD-UP - Police are investigating a robbery in Kanawha County at the Speedway on Campbell's Creek Drive. Police say the man walked into the store Sunday night and pulled a knife, demanded money and then took off. No word on how much he got away with. Police say he is a white man and was last seen wearing a black toboggan, a black hoodie, and blue jeans at the time of the robbery. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX It happened around 9:00 Tuesday night at the Castle in Fairmont. Police say two men walked in and immediately gathered the customers' cell phones, then demanded cash from the drawer and the safe. One suspect was armed with a handgun. Officers later found the patrons' cell phones outside of the gaming parlor. The first suspect appeared to be light skinned and the second suspect is dark skinned, wore a hoodie, and appeared to be approximately 6 ft. and 220 pounds. Fairmont police are working with other agencies to see if these suspects are linked to similiar crimes in Monongalia County. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Fairmont Police have arrested a man accused of stabbing another man in the back. Officers arrested Jerome Smith, 30, and charged him with attempted murder, according to Chief Kelley Moran. Smith is accused of stabbing Devin Burns, Moran said It happened on Walnut Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, according to 911 dispatchers. Smith is in the North Central Regional Jail awaiting a preliminary hearing, which has not yet been scheduled. Copyright 2010 West Virginia
