CMS BOYS BASKETBALL LOSE TWO AT SPENCER

Calhoun's Middle School Boys basketball team traveled to Spencer to take on the Yellow Jackets, Monday evening.

In the B game Calhoun started slow as Spencer jumped out to a 5 to 0 lead. After a time out, the Red Devils battled back behind two 3 pointers by Sam Brady and a lay-up by Tyler Gerwig to trail by one 9 to 8 at the end of the first period.

In the second period, Calhoun came out and played some great team defense, and the offense finally got things going as Tyler Sims scored 6 points all on 3 pointers and Tyler Tanner was the recipient of some good passing by Tyler Gerwig to allow him to 8 of his 12 points in the quarter. Sam Brad also chipped in with two as the Red Devils outscored the Yellow Jackets 16 to 3 in the second period to claim a 24 to 12 lead at the half.

Forced to make substitutions, in order to have players for the A game, Spencer came out and took the game right to the Red Devils, outscoring them by a 15 to 0 margin to retake the lead 27 to 24 heading into the final period.

In the fourth Calhoun didn't play good defense, and the Jacket's were able to extend their lead and go on to win the game by eleven 41 to 30.

Scoring for Calhoun were: Tyler Tanner 12 points, Sam Brady 8 points, Tyler Sims 6 points and Tyler Gerwig 2 points. Playing but not scoring were: Lucas Wilson, Luke Sheldon, William Baker, Ethan Miller, Devon McKown, Riley Cain, Cole Boatright and Austin Bailey.

In the A game it was eighth grade night at Spencer and the Jackets came out ready to play jumping all over the Red Devils in the first period to take a 15 to 3 lead. The game slowed down in the second as neither team could get any offense as the Jackets took a 22 to 7 lead at the half.

In the third period Spencer again came out strong outscoring the Devils 21 to 6.

In the fourth period Calhoun finally got things going, as Mason Sheldon scored 4 points, Logan Moore 5 points, Tyler Sims 2 points and Ryan Slider 5 points to outscore the Jackets 16 to 14 in the period. The run came too late, as Spencer posted a 57 to 27 win.

Scoring for the Devils were: Mason Sheldon 6 points, Logan Moore 6 points, Kameron Carder 2 points, Tyler Sims 2 points, and Ryan Slider 11 points. Playing but not scoring were: Tyler Gerwig. Lucas Wilson, William Baker, Luke Sheldon, Ethan Miller, Riley Cain and Austin Bailey.
