Glenville, WV - Glenville State College Student Organizations are learning how to make a difference in the world. They have raised $600 for the Haiti Relief Fund and presented the money to Sharon Kesselring, Director of Financial Development for the Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, on Friday, January 29th.

Student organization representatives collected donations across GSC's campus in both the Rusty Musket and Pickens Hall from January 21-27th. These gifts will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance, and other support to help the earthquake victims.

"It is fantastic to witness college students stepping up and supporting a cause such as the Haiti disaster. This donation of $600 will help sixty families put their lives back together. I hope to work with Glenville State College more in the future," said Kesselring.

GSC Student Government Association President Marlon Henry said, "We saw the need to support Haiti and quickly got the student body motivated to give. It is incredible to see how a small campus can impact the world."

"It felt good to see so many people from different organizations come together for a great cause," said Chi Zeta Pi President Katrina Fitzwater.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross covers Wood, Wirt, Ritchie, Roane, Jackson, Pleasants, Calhoun, and Gilmer Counties in West Virginia as well as Belpre, Ohio. They provide health and safety, blood, emergency, and disaster relief as well as youth services across this region.

Visit www.redcross.org for a daily update on Red Cross activity in Haiti. For more information about GSC student organizations helping others, please contact GSC Director of Student Activities Kipp Colvin at Kipp.Colvin@glenville.edu or (304)462-6412.
