The Braxton County Knights traveled to Mt. Zion to take on the Red Devils in their home gym.

In the eighth grade game both teams played even for the first half as the teams headed into the locker room tied at 15.

Faced with foul trouble, Calhoun was forced to keep its starting center on the bench for the third period and Braxton took advantage by outscoring the Red Devils 11 to 1 to take a 10 point lead heading into the fourth period.

In the fourth Calhoun tried to battle back, outscoring the knights 10 to 9 but it wasn't enough as they dropped a hard fought decision 35 to 26.

Leading the way for the Red Devils were, Tyler Gerwig with 10 points, Tyler Sims with 4 points, Kameron Carder with 3 points, Mason Sheldon, Logan Moore and Tyler Tanner each scored 2 points. Playing but not scoring were Cole Boatright and Eythan Miller.

The seventh grade game was a barn burner, as Calhoun players battled back from a 9 point deficit in the fourth period. In the period Calhoun turned up the defense, and Tyler Sims hit a three pointer to give the Red Devils the lead 29 to 27. A few moments later Kirkland Allen made a free throw to put the home team up by three.

Braxton County wasn't finished as they converted a three point play to tie the game at 30 with less then 20 seconds to play, and Calhoun had turned the ball over to Braxton under their own basket.

Calhoun's Kirkland Allen was able to steal the inbounds pass and then called time out with 12 seconds on the clock.

Braxton came out in a full court press and Allen was able to get the ball into Sims, who drove the length of the court and was fouled with 6 seconds remaining.

Sims made one of two of the free throws giving the Red Devils the win 31 to 30.

Scoring for Calhoun were, Tyler Sims 13 points, Lucas Wilson 3 points, Luke Sheldon 4 points, Sam Brady 4 points, Tyler Gerwig 3 points, William Baker 2 points, Kirkland Allen and Mason Sheldon with 1 point. Playing but not scoring were Eythan Miller and Devon McKown.

The coaches would like to thank the fans for their support and to let the players know how proud they are of them for never quitting and battling back for a win. This was a total team effort, and could not have been done without each one of them.
