Ronald S. "Jake" Carper, 65 - Left Hand

Ronald S. "Jake" Carper, 65, of Left Hand, West Virginia, died peacefully Thursday, January 28, 2010, in the Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born November 2, 1944, at Amma, a son of the late Roy Stratton and Georgia Faye Reynolds Carper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Likiats; and an infant brother, Roy Kent Carper.

Jake was a retired pipeline welder. He was an Army veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division, Viet Nam era, and a member of the American Legion. He was also an avid and dedicated horseman.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys McQuain Carper of Left Hand; daughters, Terri L. Marinez of Carlsbad, CA and Nicki L. Slaughter of Denver, CO; sisters, Rhonda Pauley McClain and Donna Conley both of Amma; brother, Roger Carper of Amma; a special cousin and friend, Carol Fisher of Spencer; one granddaughter and seven grandsons.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 31 at 2:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Michael F. "Mike" King officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Carper Cemetery, Amma.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 5-8 p.m.
