George D. Kemper, 88 - Cox's Mill

George D. Kemper, 88, of Newberne Community, Cox's Mill, West Virginia, departed this life at 3:14 a.m., Friday, January 29, 2010 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.

Born July 14, 1921 in Gilmer County, a son of the late Willie Nay and Flora Ellyson Kemper.

George worked for the Dept. of Agriculture as a Farmers Market Regional Supervisor based in Charleston WV. He retired in 1981 after which he and his wife made yearly trips to Florida. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and the outdoors. George was a member of the Farm Bureau and member of the Newberne United Methodist Church.

He was united in marriage October 5, 1940 to Clara "Louise" Cutlip, whom preceded him in death June 1, 2007.

Surviving are 4 sons, George David Kemper and wife Florence Anne of Newberne, Willis D. Kemper of Newberne, Joseph C. Kemper and wife Kathy of Newberne, and Larry A. Kemper and wife Betty of Lewisburg; 1 sister, Loreta Suarez of Morgantown; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 1 son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, Russell, Mary Ann, and Patrick D. Kemper all in 1981; 1 brother, Claude Kemper; 1 sister, Eva Mae Kemper Goff; 1 great granddaughter Beth Grant; and 1 great-great granddaughter, Abbigayle Faith Boggs.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 1, at the Newberne United Methodist Church on Newberne Rd. with Pastor Ed Balis officiating. Burial will follow in the Horn Creek Cemetery, Cox's Mill, WV.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m., Sunday at the mortuary.
