| The Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Department has received a $39,722 grant, along with 20 other West Virginia fire departments that applied to the 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.
Senators Jay Rockefeller and Robert Byrd announced the $1 million in grants in a press release Thursday.
The grants are awarded on a competitive basis in order to help communities across America enhance and protect the health and safety of the public.
