Calhoun played about as flat as it has done all season and the result was a 58-45 Gilmer victory Wednesday night in Glenville.

The 3-7 Red Devils came out strong and led Gilmer early on and were tied at the end of the first quarter 8-8.

But then the Red Devils fell into an effort-less effort allowing the 7-4 Titans to grab the lead and win going away.

While Gilmer was never able to blow the Red Devils out Calhoun was never able to get up the pep and energy as a team to make a comeback.

Gilmer was strong from the free throw line, especially in the second half, and from three-point land with seven overall, including four by leading scorer Ian Morris.

Cody James, who also had a three-point goal, added 12 for the Titans while Joel Roberts had 10.

Calhoun was led by Kyle Keesler who had a hustling 16 points and three assists.

Zach Moore added 13 points and six rebounds and Justin Gerwig chipped in with 10. Dan Sims had three off the bench while Bronson Clark had two and Tyler Bennett one. Chuck Kendall, Anthony Richards, Cai Clothier, Randy Fluharty, Caleb Schoolcraft and Brandon Sampson all played but did not score.

Gilmer also won the junior varsity game by an identical score: 58-45.

For the 4-5 Titans Anthony Aviles led the way with 12 while Wayne Roberts and Mitchell Hickman added 10 each. Nathan Bell led the Titans on the boards with nine to go along with his eight points.

Caleb Schoolcraft and Sims led the Red Devils now 0-7 and without a win for the last six years. Sims also had a team high eight rebounds to go along with four steals and a blocked shot while only playing two quarters.

Stuart Fitzwater added six points while Tyler Bennett, Brandon Sampson and Quentin "Q Dawg" Murphy added five each. Murphy played an excellent game coming off the bench with his hustle and defensive work. He also had six rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot.

Luke Moore had four points and seven rebounds while Trent Phillips had three points, Ricky Hall two and Derek Dawson one. Caleb Richards did not score but he had four rebounds and hustled on the defensive end of the court.

Calhoun will try to get back on track Friday night when it travels to highly-ranked Parkersburg Catholic.
