FEDS CLEAR CONGRESSMAN MOLLOHAN

(01/27/2010)
Federal prosecutors have ended a multi-year investigation of U.S. Rep. Alan Mollohan, Democrat (WV).

The investigation has focused on Mollohan's financial disclosures and funding earmarks for nonprofit groups he had created in West Virginia.

The U.S. Attorney's office in Washington, D.C., confirmed Tuesday that it had ended its probe and no charges will be filed.

Mollohan says the probe was spurred by what he called right-wing attacks and a politically motivated assault on his character.

He has filed for re-election. Six Republicans have filed for a chance to challenge him in November.
