RECESSION WATCH: Closings And Jobs Lost

MORE STEEL JOBS GONE - Following the loss of several thousand steel jobs, the Upper Ohio Valley's industrial base suffered another blow Monday.

Steelmaker ArcelorMittal and aluminum producer Ormet Corp. plans to layoff 171 workers.

The ArcelorMittal layoffs will be at the Weirton tin mill in response to "extraordinary economic conditions," says the company.

HOSPITAL LAYOFFS - Hospital officials for Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, and East Ohio Regional Hospital announced "restructuring" eliminating 23 management-related positions.

ORMET WILL CUT MORE JOBS - Ormet will cut more jobs in February, the number is not yet announced. Just before the holidays Ormet laid off around 60 workers.

COSTAL LUMBER CLOSES BUCKHANNON OPERATION - Coastal Lumber Co. is closing its dry kiln operations in Buckhannon. Twenty-five jobs will be cut as a result of the closure.
