Charles William Davis, 69 - Glenville

Charles William Davis, age 69 of Glenville, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord at 1:05 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born August 2, 1940 at home in DeKalb WV, a son of the late Oliver and Ruth M. Barnes Davis.

Charlie was employed and retired from the City of Glenville, where he served as the Chief of Police for 24 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Glenville Community Church, where he was an Elder and Sunday School teacher.

On May 16, 1970 he was united in marriage to Melody Faye Shackelford, who survives at there Rt. 5 West residence. Also surviving are 2 sons and 1 daughter, Charles William Davis Jr. and wife Angela of Jane Lew WV; Jeremy Don Davis and wife Amanda of Glenville WV, and Sarah Ruth Moss and husband Jonathan of Normantown WV. Eight grandchildren also survive, Erika, Seth and Travis Davis, Dakota, Brandi, Kalee, Alexa and Sierra Moss; 1 sister, Linda Eliene Davis of Hillard Ohio.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by 1 infant sister, Cora Margaret Davis.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 25, at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. Glenville with Pastor Randy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery located on Rt. 5 West of Glenville.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. at the mortuary Sunday evening.

Ellyson Mortuary Inc. is assisting the family of Charles W. Davis with arrangements.
