Calhoun Middle School Boys Basketball team traveled to Ellenboro to take on the Ritchie County Trailblazers, January 11. This was the first time Coaches Sims and Baker had seen the entire team since December 17, because of school closings due to the snow storms.

Still the boys came to play and didn't disappoint their fans.

In the seventh grade game Calhoun played even with the Trailblazers for three quarters but were their own worst enemy in the fourth as they had several unforced turnovers and missed several easy shots in the paint.

These errors proved to be costly as Ritchie County held on for a 30 to 25 win.

Scoring for Calhoun were, Tyler Sims 7 points, Lucas Wilson 5 points, Tyler Gerwig 7 points, Kirkland Allen 4 points and Tyler Tanner 2 points.

In the Eighth grade game, again Calhoun played even with the Trailblazers, but were their own worst enemy going 3 for 18 at the free throw line and having some costly turnovers down the stretch.

Ritchie was able to pull out the win 42 to 33.

Scoring for Calhoun were, Mason Sheldon 15 points, Ryan Slider 4 points, Logan Moore 12 points, and Tyler Sims 2 points.

On January 14, Calhoun traveled to Walton to take on the Tigers in a basketball game.

In the seventh grade game Calhoun turned up the defensive pressure and held Walton scoreless in the first quarter and then went on to post a 5 point win 22 to 17.

Scoring for Calhoun were, Tyler Sims 9 points, Tyler Gerwig 8 points, and Kirkland Allen 5 points.

Lucas Wilson, Sam Brady and Tyler Tanner played and contributed to the team by playing great defense and pulling down rebounds.

In the eighth grade game Calhoun played their hearts out but in the end Walton was too big as they posted a 60 to 31 victory over the Red Devils.

Scoring for Calhoun were, Mason Sheldon 12 points, Logan Moore 7 points, Darrien McKown 1 point, and Ryan Slider 11 points.

On January 15, Calhoun played host to the Gilmer County Titans. In the seventh grade game the two teams battled back and forth in the first quarter with Gilmer holding a slim lead 4 to 2.

In the second quarter Calhoun had some foul trouble which allowed Gilmer to take a 13 to 7 lead at the half. In the third quarter Calhoun battled back out scoring the Titans 7 to 3 to get back into the game.

In the fourth Calhoun was again plagued by the turnover bug which allowed Gilmer to pull out a 26 to 20 victory.

Scoring for Calhoun were, Tyler Sims 13 points, Tyler Gerwig 4 points and Deveon McKown 3 points.

In the eighth grade game Calhoun held their own with the Titans in the first half trailing 11 to 21 at the half.

In the second half Gilmer used their size and speed to pull away from the Red Devils and post a 41 to 22 victory.

Scoring for the Red Devils were, Mason Sheldon 6 points, Logan Moore 7 points, Ryan Slider 7 points and Tyler Gerwig 2 points.
