Kenneth Hibbitts Stewart, 88 - Formerly of Spencer

Kenneth Hibbitts Stewart, 88, of Surprise, Arizona, formerly of Spencer, West Virginia, died Sunday, January 3, 2010, at home.

He was born September 14, 1921, at Bucyrus, Ohio, a son of the late Francis and Nina (Oberlander) Stewart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Veronica Stewart.

Ken was a retired district manager of Prudential Insurance Company, former co-owner of the Queen Bee Restaurant and the Kwik Shop in Spencer, and former member and Past President of the Roane County Commission from January 1983 until December 1988. He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Spencer and the Knights of Columbus. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and a member of the West Virginia American Legion Post 21. Ken was an avid bowler and golfer, and a member of the Roane County Country Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlene L. Lockitski of Goodyear, AZ; two sons, Ronald K. Stewart of Spencer and Dr. James A. Stewart of Portsmouth, VA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Spencer, with the Rev. Thomas Chacko, as celebrant. Burial, with military graveside rites, will be in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer.

Friends may call at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, Saturday, February 13 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Kenneth H. Stewart's name to the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Spencer or the American Lung Association.
