Five candidates filed Monday in the County Clerk's office, the first day of filing for the 2010 off-year election.

Long-time Calhoun Circuit Clerk Shelia Garretson filed for re-election, and incumbent Bob Weaver filed for Calhoun Commission.

Candidates for Calhoun Commission must be from Lee, Sheridan or Center Districts.

Connie Smith, a current deputy clerk in the County Clerk's office, filed for County Clerk. Current County Clerk Richard Kirby is retiring.

Filing Monday for Board of Education was Mike Yeager from Sherman District and Mike Wilson from Lee District.

Wilson had to resign from the board in 2009 after he moved from the district he was serving.

Three positions are open for the Board of Education.

Only two board members can serve in any district at one time, so in this race, only one board member can be elected from Sherman and Lee Districts.

The House of Delegate seat, a two-year term, is open, with incumbent Del. David Walker running.

Calhoun resident Ron Blankenship, who nearly beat Walker in the last election by about 15 votes, will be filing candidacy papers.

A large field of candidates from the three county delegate district split the vote, causing Blankenship's defeat.

Candidates can file until January 30.
