as an elected Calhoun official

Longtime Calhoun County Clerk Richard Kirby is retiring.

Kirby will complete his final term this year, after serving 20 years in the position.

Kirby was also a county commissioner for a six year term, and previously worked for the WV Department of Highways. He has been an active community volunteer, best known for his long dedication to the Boy Scouts.

"I have decided to retire from public service and not run for re-election," he said this week.

"The people of Calhoun County have been good to me over the years and I have enjoyed my work in providing services to our citizens," Kirby said.

"I'm sure I will miss this job and the time it has provided for me to spend with each of you," he said.

Kirby says he plans on returning to his land surveying business and working on his farm, saying "I'm sure it will keep me busy."

"I would like to thank everyone for the opportunity to serve as an elected official," he concluded.
