James Dana Bailey, 90 - Newton

James Dana Bailey, 90, of Newton, West Virginia, died Monday, January 4, 2010, in the CAMC - Memorial Hospital, Charleston.

He was born September 25, 1919, in Calhoun County, a son of the late Henderson Calvert and Lillie Ann Hunt Bailey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia P. Greathouse Bailey; a son, James Dana "Jim" Bailey, II; sisters, Tressie Bailey, Delphia Brannon, Eva Spencer and Dessie Noe; brothers, Bruce, Woody, Clifford and H.C. Bailey, Jr.

Mr. Bailey retired in 1980, from Union Carbide Corp., Alloy, WV. He was a longtime member of the Newton Baptist Church, Newton, where he served many years as Sunday school superintendent. Also, he enjoyed baseball.

Survivors include a daughter, Dawne Ann Church of Kerrville, TX; a son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Ruth Bailey of Cross Lanes; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 7 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newton Baptist Church, Newton, with the Rev. Ronald Fisher officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Point Cemetery, Newton. Friends may call Thursday, two hours prior to the service, at the church.

John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements.
