The West Virginia University Extension Service will be offering a free seminar on meeting procedure and parliamentary law at the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center on January 16th, starting at 9:00 a.m.

This program, taught by professional registered parliamentarian Roger Hanshaw, will focus on how organizations, boards, committees, and other groups can use Robert's Rules of Order to make business meetings less time consuming and more productive. Some of the topics to be covered in this presentation include:

• Time-saving tips for business meetings

• Using parliamentary procedures to accomplish goals in a meeting

• Understanding the rights of you as a member and the group as a whole

• Tactics for planning a successful business meeting

• Using parliamentary procedure to run an effective organization

This seminar will provide a thorough review of how parliamentary procedures ought to be utilized in normal business meetings, as well as highlight some of the most common myths about business meeting procedure.

For those who serve in an officer position in an organization, this session will offer techniques for running orderly meetings that accomplish organization objectives as effectively as possible, and for others, the session will offer advice and strategies for using parliamentary procedure to accomplish specific goals unique to an individual.

All participants will receive reference materials to take away from the seminar for future use.
