POLICE STOP MAN AFTER LONG CHASE - Frederick Facing Four Counts

(01/04/2010)
Police chased a man from Gilmer to Wood county, a pursuit that started late Saturday night.

Waitman Lee Frederick, 49 (left) was stopped on Rt. 47 near Parkersburg after officers placed spikes across the highway early Sunday morning.

The spikes deflated Frederick's tires, and the vehicle hit a guard rail. Police have said the chase started because the driver appeared to be drinking.

It was described as a slow-speed chase.

Frederick is incarcerated in North Central Regional Jail, charged with four counts, DUI fleeing, two counts of fleeing causing damage, one count of obstruction and one count of reckless driving.

He is being charged in both Wood and Gilmer, with bond set at $12,000 in Gilmer and bond set at $10,000 in Wood.

Calhoun authorities were advised at 11 p.m. that the fleeing driver was traveling Rt. 5 west toward Calhoun, but then took another route to State Route 47.

The Gilmer County Sheriff's Office, Glenville Police, West Virginia State Police, and Wood County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident.
