1092ND ENGINEERS OFF TO AFGHANISTAN AGAIN - Spencer's 821st Subject To Recall

(01/04/2010)
The 1092nd Engineer Battalion in Parkersburg and Point Pleasant will be headed to Afghanistan again.

The 1092nd originally had a detachment in Spencer, which was activated in 2003.

The Spencer National Guard is now the 821st Engineering Company with detachments in Spencer and Summersville.

The 821st came home from Iraq, July 13, 2008, including about a dozen men from Calhoun.

They spent a year in Iraq.

About 200 soldiers from the 1092nd's two units will ship out this spring for a one-year deployment, said Lt. Col. Michael O. Cadle.

President Obama has decided to remain in the Afghan War following US involvement in 2001, shortly after the US invaded Iraq.

The 1092nd will be involved in construction, including building roads, infrastructure and support facilities for the troops.

The 821st Engineering Company in Spencer is subject to recall within three years of their return in July, 2008.
